Classic Ships at Admiral Hotel Copenhagen

The Halmø schooner appeals to all senses. Tied just outside the Copenhagen Admiral Hotel during sailing season, this grand centenary looks as beautiful as the day she was first launched in Fåborg on April 9th, 1900.

Today, Halmø is one of Denmark’s best-preserved, vintage sailing ships. Her classic, early 20th century fittings have been blended with modern-day facilities, making Halmø ideal for hosting memorable events including meetings at sea, receptions by the quay, team building activities or exciting trips. Up to 42 passengers can be accommodated.

Her boat builder, Rasmus Møller, also built many ships for the Danish State. After her maiden voyage, Halmø sailed the Danish waters as a freighter and domestic packet boat. She also helped sail Danish Jews to safety on Swedish shores during the Second World War.

In 1974, the schooner’s life took a new turn when boat builder, Freddy Jørgensen fell in love with her in Sæby Harbour. He and his son devoted more than 12,000 work hours restoring her into a classic yacht. New masts of seasoned larch wood were built and Halmø was later treated to a new rudder, steel keel and oak planks. The original hold was carefully converted into a beautiful saloon, one four-person cabin, three double cabins, a bathroom and two toilets.

The Copenhagen Admiral Hotel co-owns the vessel, which is berthed in front of the hotel from April to September. The United Sailing Ships, who also own the wooden vessels Mira and Lilla Dan, handles the day-to-day operations of the schooner.
